Went looking for a new theme for this blog as the old one was really getting stale for me to to look at it everyday. Found lots of mice ones. It has been quite sometime that I went looking for Blogger Themes and I was surprised by the sheer number of themes that are so nicely done.

Found a site that was recommended by a blogger friend called Final Sense. The templates available there are simply amazing. So professionally done and all it given out for free. Some a are classic themes and some are XML themes for the new version of Blogger.

Downloaded one to try out but alas, it did not turn up properly. SO i went digging to see what was wrong and why the template doesn't work.Then I realise that I was using a classic template before and i downloaded one that is suitable only if I revert back to the new Blogger. Did just that, but still there was something wrong.

After tinkering wih the codes for a little while, I realised that I don't have the talents with code. I got real frustratated about my ignorance.

Can Blogger be Optimized?

Decided to give this blog a small face lift. The previous heme that I was using seems to take ages to load and I hate to wait. I think lots of people too dislike slow loading blogs. Experts have deduced that the longest waiting period that someone is willing to wait for a site to load is about 20 seconds. After that the majority will just head somewhere else.

Tried checking out a few sites that designs blogger Templates and I found one that i really like at Gecko and Fly but after uploading the codes here, I found that it doesn't work, so i used this minimalistic theme instead. There is no frills here and it loads much faster than the previous one.

I am actually quite surprise that no one has written any kind of plugins for Blogger. Maybe this platform is not suitable for these kind of programs. It would really be wonderful if we can get all those cool plugins to work with Blogger.Where there are millions of articles out there teaching everyone how to optimise their Wordpress blogs for a thousand things, I haven't seen one tip even for Blogger. Does that mean Blogger needs no optimization or it has it's codes been fully optimised? I really have no idea and it seems like it's a tabboo to mention the word optimization for Blogger.

I just started to get an interest in shopping online. When there was worries that my credit information will be compromised, my worries were somewhat unfounded when I saw what my friends have been buying over the net for the past one month. He is getting things much cheaper that what I buy in stores because he been using coupons when he shops online.

Online shopping can be addictive. especially when you see all the good bargains that you get when you shop with Online Coupons. Sometimes I get to save a whopping 70% discount. Is there any future in Paid Posting?

The number of blogs have been mushrooming and the number of blogs registered with most of the sites that offers Paid Postings have also increased dramatically. When it was possible to get a few opportunities a day before, these days we practically have to fight over what was offered. Something that does not augurs well for posties like me who have a slow internet access. It also effect the prices of opportunities and the value of our page ranks.

I was really happy when one of my blogs attained a PR 5 during the last update. thinking that this will be my passport to better opportunities. However, the 5 ranking has lost much of it's value now. The most highly paid reviews are for blogs with PR6 and even a $5 review need a pr5 nowadays.

In a year or two, the number of PR 6 blogs will also be so common that I think Page Ranks will no longer be the pricing criteria for Paid Posts. Instead, Alexa Ranks will be considered more as Alexa rankings are based on readership numbers. Even some advertiserd now insist on a good Alexa Rankig when offering opportunities.

I hate to think about the future of Paid Postings. The mad rush to start blogs for this pupose alone has played a big part in the detioration and I see a bleak road ahead.

Tmnet So Slow.

I hate it when the Internet connection slows down to snail like pace. It gets so frustrating, especially if you are trying to reserve some reviews from PayPerPost. It takes a full 2 minute for the whole page to load and by the time I take the opportunity, someone else with a faster connection has beaten me to it.

Of course I understand it could be some technical fault or something beyond human control,but a big concern like TMnet should have backups don't they? The other day I was at their service center and I took the chance to complain about the slow connection speed and the answer they gave me was a very casual, "too many users". Like hell, as if I don't know. They are monopolizing the business, of course there are too many users. Since they know they are too many users why did they not upgrade their system? Instead they are giving out more offers and getting more customers to jam up the system the entire system.

I have been waiting for like ages for a serious competitor to challenge them, but so far, even with lots of publicity about new broadband ISPs coming up, I haven't seen one materialize. The minute one come to town, it is going to bye bye Tmnet.

Do Not Abandon your Blog

After blogging for more than 2 years, most people would have given up. The foremost reason for people abandoning what they started with so much jest initially is they get disillusioned. It can be very disheartening for anyone to keep blogging everyday and yet find their blogs going nowhere.

Some people profess that they blog only for themselves and doesn't mind if there is nobody reads their blogs, but I think they are a rare few. How can you write something day after day, expressing your opinions their own self. Opinions are meant to be shared and opinions are meant to be countered so man improves. If your opinions are not heard, then in the long run, you will be thinking that all your opinions are right simply because there is no one to contradict it.

This blog too suffers from lack of feed back, but I carry on because I know the reason lies with me and me alone. Sometimes I get a block so bad that i just simply run out of ideas on what to write.When that happens, I just leave this blog a;one and do other things. I don't have the heart just to abandon this blog. There is still hope that one day I cam bring m,yself top make a greaterc effort to improve it.

I really admire people who has more than 3 blogs and yet find the time to cater for each of their blogs. How they do it never cease to amaze me. All the blogs have good original contents and all have respectable number of daily visitors. Where do their ideas come from?

I too have more than one blog and sometimes I am totally drained on ideas of what to write. There are time when I resorted to copy and paste just to keep up the numbers though I realise that it is a bad practise.

Having too many blogs of the same niche to take care is not good as I have found out. I have seen bloggers having 2 blogs, both blogging about the same topic. I mean that is kind of foolish isn't it? He is actually splitting his visitors instead of concentrating to get them all to come to one blog. In the end he might have 2 blogs that gets a 100 visitors each rather than one blog that garner 200 visitors.

Of course if the writes different things on the other blog, he can get his visitors to visit both of them. So I guess if we are not to smart and doesn't have many ideas that we are familiar with, it would be best if we just stick to one blog and concentrate on that alone. At least we can have one successful blog rather than 3 failing blogs.

Blogging is time consuming

There have been a serious lack of update to this blog recently. Fact was I have been busy setting up a new blog that I have just started. When someone gets a new toy, the old one naturally gets neglected.

There lots to be done and the first obstacle was getting a theme to suit that blog's niche. I must have changed at least 10 times until I finally settled for a very plain theme called Press Row, by Chris Pearson, He is also the designer of the Cutline theme which I am also using for another blog of mine. Quite happy with the present theme but the only complain is it does not support Wordpress widgets and adding things to my sidebar was a little bit troublesome. That's why I still haven't gotten around to putting much on the sidebars except for some Ads which hopefully will make me enough to cover my hosting fees.

The new blog, titled Blog Rumble is going on nicely and I have been getting a steady stream of visitors. I haven't really submitted the blog to any search engines though, so search traffic is seriously lacking. Then there are those Directories that should be submitting. I haven't had time to do all this small but important tasks.

To date I am already managing 5 active blogs and to give each blog the same attention is almost impossible unless i do it full time. I don't have the heart to give up any one of my blogs because each is doing quite well in their own way. Of course some don't enjoy as much readership as the other, but at least it is swerving it's purpose. I think I will have to run up a blog updating schedule.

Ever Since I switch from placing Adsense here to placing Ads from Bidsvertiser, response has been terrible. The difference is markedly clear. The reason I guess is because Bidsvertiser fails to deliver relevant Ads like what adsense does.

I have a couple of blogs running Adsense and my niche DIY blog always gets very relevant Ads from Adsene and my readers who are keen to find out more from what I have written will sometimes clicks on the Ads present. However, Ads from Bidsvertiser seems very limited and all the Ads shown seems to be from the same Advertisers.

After placing Bidsvertiser for 2 weeks here, I only had one single click when with Adsense, I can easily get 4 or 5 clicks. I thought a change might do some good, but I guess I am wrong. When it comes to PPC Ads, Adsense still leads way ahead.

After experimenting with Bidsvertiser, I am now convinced that Adsense is still the better choice. So, it's back to adsense for this blog.

The recent and persisting glitches in PayPal had gotten many Bloggers worried that they may not see their money. Though PayPal has clarified through their e-mails that it's a system error caused by their recent maintenance, this problem has been dragging on for nearly a week. It's surprising that such a professional site like Paypal can drag this problem for so long.

It's a common human trait that when problems don't get solved at the shortest time possible, tongues begins to wag. Lots of ugly rumors have started going around that PayPal is going to insist everyone has a US account before that can accept their Funds. Personally, I feel PayPal would not implement such a rule as the major portion of their customers are from countries outside the US. If such a rule becomes a reality, PayPal's business would surely be severely affected.

Another possibility is they might have aqquired an online Bank, so all those PayPal members not residing in the US may be forced to open an account with the Online Bank to qualify for a US Bank Account. Actually, this might be a blessing in disguise for people staying outside the US and don't have the means to open an US account, but though the fess for doing such a thing is quite affordable, getting the initial deposit might still deter many from doing so. The last one I checked needs a initial deposit of $1000 to start out with. Though this money can be withdrawn once the Account is approved, getting that some of money is not within the reach of many, me, included. Maybe I should save all my money in PayPal just for this purpose.

Lots of bloggers have the notion that what they blog is their business. It is true to a certain extent. If your blog is a private blog where you don't welcome readers. then I suppose a blogger can write whatever he fancies. No outsiders will be reading it anyway, so you don't offend anyone. It's your own private diary where you list down your inner thoughts, though I always wonder why anyone would want to write a diary in the Internet where it can be exposed for the world to see. If they want to keep a diary, wouldn't it be better if they do it in their own PC and password protect it? A diary is something that is private right?

So I am baffled at the attitude of some bloggers when they start throwing up a tantrum whenever someone sees things differently from them. Fighting the Blogger's block

Some days, when you are hit with a bad block, or a blogger's block, what are the things that you do to erase that block? For me, I forget about blogging and browse through the morning papers. News papers are my greatest source of inspiration and ideas. There new items everyday. If you can't find some local politicians to criticise, there are foreign ones. Then there are world issues. All these are bloggable items.

Another thing I do is watch the morning news.Same as the morning papers but early news from the TV is the latest news which is even better for bloggers. We can blog about whatever even before the papers prints it. That would be hot for your blogs.

If none of the above works, I go blog hopping. Visit all the blogs that interest you and very often, I have something that I can comment on in own blogs, making it good blogging material. When you comment on someone's post in your own blog, it attracts lots of the other blogger's readers to your blog.

Lastly, if all these 3 methods don't work, I take a break from blogging for that day. No point forcing yourself to write if you don't feel like it. You will only end up with a lame and boring post.

Search Traffic for Blogspot themes

The recent Page Rank Update had every blogger clamouring to check if their PR has increased. Some jumped with Joy to see their few months old blog gaining a good ranking. Some despaired to see their blogs got demoted. I too was hoping that this blog could gain another point in rankings, but it's not to be. It still lags at PR3.

I have always wondered how blogs that are 2 or 3 months old could get a very good ranking. Is it because of the articles they write? Or could it be the themes that they are using? I have tried out lots of themes and most of the themes I prefer are those that have been optimised for Search Engines like Googles. Some really worked well and I do see an increase in Search Traffic. The thing is, do Googles takes traffic from their Search Engines into account when ranking a page?

If that is the case, then I have a problem here. I have never come across a Blogspot template that is optimised for Search Traffic. With Wordpress, there are so many tweaks that can be done to enhance Search. Wouldn't it be great if Blogspot theme developers could come out with a Search Engine Friendly Theme.

Most successful bloggers will tell you that if you blog in your preferred language, make sure you write with the proper grammar. Though I am not proficient in any other languages, I guess every language must have their own proper way and rules to write a good sentence. For the majority who blogs in English, there are also rules that we must follow when writing a good sentence.

However, I have seen blogs that uses really bad grammar but yet are so successful. They break every grammatical rule there is. How is it then, that they can be so successful? My opinion is, their blogs are not story telling blogs where perfect expressions of the language makes the story interesting. They don't have to string beautiful phrases to attract readers. What they have to offer are facts and the only thing they need to do is to get the facts through. That does not need perfect English. They don't have to worry about all the past and present tenses. As long as people understand what he is trying to convey, it will be good enough.

Sometimes it's also fun to read blogs in broken English. At least we get some entertainment and a few laughs. I too blog in Manglish most of the time in my other Blog. People reacts more favourably this way. I write like the way i would talk to bring the blog and the readers closer together. It's just like I am talking to them in person and not through words.

I recently started learning how to create a blog theme for my wordpress blogs. I have been using all those free themes that are abundant for wordpress but according to experts, if I have my own theme, it would be better. Since I can't afford to pay experts to do it, I have decided to learn and do one on my own.

Learning to create my own theme is really lots of fun. Everyday, I seem to learn something new and things that I did not know could be done, now seems a little bit easy for me. Codes that I did not know before now looks a little bit sensible to me.

Money Making Blog?

The norm these days from what i have observed are blogs about making money. So many of these blog have sprouted out in the last few months each trying to jump on the latest craze in the blogging world and that is making money from blogging.

Most of them has no content other than telling people where they can obtain links to make money or where they can go to write reviews and such. I really don't know if you can really call these blogs, "How to make money" blogs.

My opinion of a "How To Make Money" blog is a blog that teaches me how to Optimise my blog so that i can make sure money. Not someone telling me to go join some affiliate program or go register with some paid review sites to write reviews. I don't need people telling me that I can make money by joining affiliates. I need people to tell me how to make money AFTER joining the affiliates. Every Tom, Dick and Harry can join the numerous affiliate programmes out there, but the few who actually makes money after joining is minimal.

I never return to these kind of blogs after my first visit. There have noting to offer that I don't already know. What they want is just to trick people into clicking their affiliate links and make some referral fees for themselves. Guess that is what they meant when they say they have a "How to Make Money" blog.

1. Keyword Use in Title Tag
I have said for many years that if I had a gun to my head, and could do only one thing to a web page to optimize it, my choice would be the title tag. Put your keyphrases in your title tag, and remember to optimize each page individually (i.e. don't overstuff your title tag, and have different title tags for each page that reflect the content of that particular page - otherwise, you may suffer from a duplicative content exclusion and find yourself in the supplemental results).

2. Keyword Use in Body Text
Duh. If your keyword or keyphrase isn't mentioned at least once in the body text of the web page, then it does not seem your page is very relevant to that keyphrase, now does it? But don't get all caught up in the keyphrase density myth - there is no magic number of times it should appear. Make sense to readers, and it will make sense to the search engines.

3. Relationship of Body Text Content to Keywords (Topic Analysis)
Google is smarter than you give them credit for, and just stuffing a keyphrase into a completely unrelated page won't do you much, if any good. Your page should be on a topic which is semantically related to the keyphrase which you are targeting in your title tag.

4. Keyword Use in H1 Tag
Oh, for years the naysayers have been telling me that H1 tag keyphrase use meant nothing and that I was an idiot for thinking otherwise. Well the verdict is in and this is the fourth most important factor according to the SEOMoz article. At this point, therefore, we have learned to put your keyphrase in your title tag, include it in your body text, which body text is topically or semantically related to the keyphrase, and head up the body text with an H1 containing the keyphrase.

5. Keyword Use in Domain Name
This is one that I disagree with. I have seen absolutely no evidence of this at all. Do a simple search on the internet for most any search term, and chances are the top results do not have the search query in the domain name. I believe this may have minor importance, but don't go and change your domain because of it. Seriously, you have much more to lose (such as age of domain, inbound linkage, site reputation, etc.) I regularly see clients at the top of Google with domain names containing nothing near the relevant search terms.

6. Keyword Use in Page URL
This is what I have called "descriptive file naming" for a number of years. I believe it is of some importance, again, however, is more of a factor when setting up a new domain than would be for an existing domain with high pagerank and inbound linkage. Changing your internal url's for the sole purpose of meeting this criterion again is very risky, for the same reasons mentioned above.

7. Keyword Use in H2, H3, H... Tags
Well if it works for H1, why not for H2 et al.?

8. Keyword Use in ALT Attributes and Image Titles
SEOMoz incorrectly calls them an ALT tag, but it is not a tag, the ALT is an attribute of the IMG tag. Semantics aside, I believe this to be highly important, I would have ranked this above the URL and domain name items. Experience has shown me that image optimization (image file name, alt attribute, and title) is a wonderful way to make a page more relevant to a desired search query.

9. Keyword Use in Bold/Strong Tags
I always use this method, as well as keyword use within the EM (italics) tag. I believe this to be a moderately important factor as it helps emphasize to Google what your page is about, and what you consider important. Definitely on my short list of things to do for "on page" search engine optimization.

10. Keyword Use in Meta Description Tag
Again, one of my "big 4" for on page optimization. The "big 4" being: title tag, meta description, h1, and image ALT attributes. (I don't include body text in my big 4 as I believe that is self evident). Definitely important, and again, each page should have custom title and meta description tags.

The more inbound links you acquire, the higher your search engine ranking will be. There are more than a few ways to acquire links, but I have a certain strategy that worked well for me.

My advice to you is to write articles and press releases and submit them to article directories and press release distribution services who will then distribute your articles and press releases to other websites who will publish them and in return link back to you. Also, you can submit your site to bloggers through a popular service called Blogitive (Blogitive will get blogs to post one-way anchor text links to your site in their blog, which will greatly enhance your search engine ranking).

If you are not patient enough to wait for your search engine ranking to improve, you can attract visitors to your web site instantly by using pay-per-click advertising (PPC). With PPC, you pay a certain cost per click to have an ad for your web page run at or near the top of the search engine listings for certain keywords. This can be extremely costly and ineffective. It is not uncommon for webmasters to blow thousands of dollars on PPC advertising and make only a few sales.

The best way to promote your site, if you are actually selling something, is through an affiliate program. You need to provide an affiliate code to other online merchants so that they will place your banner on their site; every time you make a sale that resulted from an affiliate referral, the affiliate gets a commission. Some internet companies have thousands of affiliates, and get all the business they would ever need or want this way; and it costs you nothing.

To recruit affiliates, you should submit your affiliate program to as many directories as possible (there are directories where you can list your affiliate program for free). The best way to find affiliates is by listing your program on forums or message boards visited by webmasters who are looking to generate additional revenue for their online business. You will have to consult with an experienced programmer who can set up the affiliate program so that the codes used to track sales for each affiliate will work properly.

So, to summarize, you should first optimize your website and submit it to search engines. You should then begin submitting articles and press releases to article directories and press release distribution services. You should also submit your site to Blogitive so that bloggers will write a review of your site and link to it, further boosting your link popularity. You might want to join a link exchange, but trading links often proves fruitless. Also, you should set up an affiliate program. And finally, you should budget a small amount of money to spend each week on pay-per-click.

If you are persistent and use all of these methods, you will continually increase your traffic over a period of time. It will probably take approximately 3 years of performing each of the tasks outlined in this article, on a daily basis, to get where you want to be. Just stick with it and your efforts will be rewarded in the long run.

Host Blogs on Different Servers.

My Host's Server acted up again yesterday and was down for more than 15 hours, causing me real pain. Though no fault of his, I think I must really make plans to have different blogs hosted by different companies. In case one hosting company gets screwed up, at least I have other blogs running.

At present i have 2 blogs hosted by the same guy, but fortunately, one of the blogs was on another server. So at least I had one running blog yesterday.

On the other hand, it's also good to have your blogs hosted by someone you know personally. He was so good to keep me updated about the breakdown and I did not feel too lost as to what is happening. He attached the emails he sent out so that I will know that he is really doing something on his side. It was very decent of him.

Guess we can never have the best of both worlds. I hope this kind of things don't happens too often. He has switched servers which offers a better backup utility and I think it was wise of him.

The recent spate of blog hackings had me thinking. Did the hacker hack my blog from my blog itself or did he do it from my Host's server. I am quite ignorant about these things, but the fact that all the blogs that were hacked belongs to the same server had my suspisions aroused. However I did not pointing fingers and all.

I have done almost all that could be done to protect my blogs from being hacked again, but only god knows what these hackers are capable of. The can even change my password to lock me out of my own blog. I think I have quite a secure password, following the rules aff an expert that a password should contain lower cases and upper cases and should have numbers included. I have done all that, yet it is still breakable.

I don't know if there is a software out there that could generate really secure passwords. If there is, I think the programmer will be a rich man, with all the hackers around.

Payday Loan Lowdown is a blog that talks about loans. Using a 3 column layout with sidebars for easy navigation on the right and Advertisements on the left, this layout is very easy and pleasant on the eyes. I don't know if it's me only as I personally like 3 columns more than 2 column templates.

Having been in existence for nearly a year, this blog has a respectable Page Rank of 4. Articles are well spread ed out with many interesting post on their niche topic, which is payday loan tips.

In their latest entry, this blog announced the hosting "Carnival of Payday Loan" on April 5, 2007, where bloggers who have the same interest are invited to submit their articles to this Carnival.

I really don't understand what those hackers get by defacing other people's blogs. They get noting except hatred and curses by others. There is no monetary gain, they are not going to be popular and if they get caught, their butts will be on fire. So why are they doing this?

Is it because of the self satisfaction that they get? The self satisfaction of being able to break into people's blog unnoticed and star defacing the said blog? Or is there a wage going on to see who can hack the most sites and the winner the the pool? That sound i little bit more logical to me. At least there is something to gain here to encourage them to hack.

Most of the time, these hackers have a site of their own to show off their recent conquest. That 's the reason why I say, they are competing against each other, else why should they make statistics of their hacks. Maybe it's all for self satisfaction after all. Only god will know what goes on in the heads of these freaks.

Tips on designing a site logo

For those contemplating about designing your own logos for your blogs or sites, here are some useful tips that I received from one or the many newsletters that I subscribed to.

Some 'Golden Rules' of logo design

While the variables are infinite (that's a good thing - it means that every logo can be unique) there are certain benchmarks (I hesitate to call them rules) that if you follow, will pretty well insure that you'll end up with a decent and workable logo. While whether or not a logo is 'good' remains completely subjective, following these pointers will give you a logo that's usable, practical and promising a long shelf life.

1) Uniqueness
Your logo should be able to stand out as completely 'yours'. It's surprising how many times we get asked to 'copy' logos - we've even had clients request a 'version' of my brand. Not a good idea. On top of the potential legal complications nothing screams 'unprofessional' like a logo that's looks even remotely like someone else's. Do not copy. I'll say it again. Do. Not. Copy.

2) Timeless
Every few years there's a trend, or fad, that new logos seems to embrace. A few years ago it was the 'swoosh' - made logos all hi-tech and 'internety'. Trouble is, everybody jumped on that bandwagon and the treatment rapidly became hackneyed and trite. Few years hence, and we've got lots of people stuck with out of date designs. The latest design logo trend is so-called 2.0, a technique that (like a lot of design trends) can be traced back to Apple Computers. Take your logo, add a 'gel' treatment, give it glassy reflection at the bottom and you're all set. (hey - the 3D version of our house could qualify). Web 2.0 is still going strong, but I'll go out on a limb and say it will be yesterday's news by end of summer.

3) Gimmick Free
Special FX and filters are usually applied, by inexperienced designers, to logos that are 'missing something'. Trouble is, what the logo is generally missing is any design integrity, and adding bevels, lens flares and drop shadows is the logo design version of 'putting lipstick on a pig'. While it certainly shows how cool the latest design software is, it doesn't do much for the professionalism of your mark. Such treatments are fine for glamour shots (used as display pieces on brochures and the like) but are only going to cause grief down the road, especially when it comes to application of your new logo on standard business material. Your logo should be as technically simple as possible for adaptability, which just happened to be number 4 on our list...

4) Adaptability
Over the life of your company, you'll want to plaster your logo over everything you send out. That's the point of having a logo in the first place. In order to do this, you'll need a logo that's adaptable to every occasion and while they may look 'pretty' , the design gimmicks we just talked about render your logo impractical for many of these uses. Some of these uses - checks, FAXes, embroidery, newspaper ads, invoices, letterheads, etc. Your new logo has to work on all of them. You'll also need a quality black and white version that can reproduce as a halftone grayscale, or in the cases of low-resolution BW reproduction, a linear version.

5) Scalability
When using your logo, you'll need to be able to use it small. Real small. Postage stamp size. Classic example of this - over the years, I've designed a load of sports event posters that feature logos from dozens of event sponsors. Space only permits the logos to be featured as very small images and it's always the simpler logos that stand out when viewed from a distance. The cluttered logos aren't recognizable to any great degree and the sponsors are probably wasting their money, especially if inclusion on the poster is the only benefit of their sponsorship. When it comes to scalability, the text portion of the logo is the most important, as that's the piece you want people to remember. Scrawny, sickly text doesn't read very well at half an inch high.

6) Color is Secondary
Colors are extremely important. Using consistent corporate colors will become part of your brand - that's understood. However, when it comes to the design of your logo, color must always be secondary. A logo that requires color to 'hold' the design together is fine when reproduction is optimal - websites, 4 color process printing and what have you - but even then only if the size is appropriate as well. Logos that rely too much on color tend to blend together when used small (see above) and unless the contrast between the two colors is pronounced, will be a grey mess if used in black and white. As for low-resolution reproduction (FAXES, checks, etc) you can forget about readability completely - logos that use color as a design cornerstone usually come out as black blotches on a FAX transmission and with all their money, banks still haven't figured out how to print a decent check.

7) Appropriate Aspect Ratio & Footprint
The aspect ratio of a logo is the relationship between a logo's height and it's width. Bottom line, you don't want a logo that's too tall, or too wide. Square'ish' is always best as this allows the maximum adaptability of a logo, especially when it's being used in conjunction with other artwork. The 'footprint' of a logo refers to the amount of physical space that's required to place a logo on any page. If the footprint is 'wonky' - trailing design elements 'poke' outside the footprint - it can greatly affect the size that the design can be used at, as well as the visual impact of same.

Like most 'rules' of design, not all of these will apply in every situation, and in many cases, we'll toss them out completely. However, they should give you a road map that will help you navigate the sometimes frustrating creative process to design your new logo.

I have been a PayPerPost Postie for nearly 3 months now and I must say, I do see increased site traffic after becoming a postie. Within this short span of time, I have seen major changes in PPP, each time catching me off guard. 1. Non-Relevant Linkage.

External links to your site play a large part in most of the major search engine algorithms and can be considered an endorsement of your site. But if you are being linked to from sites that have no relevance to your content, then that is now considered a negative endorsement and will not raise your ranking in the search engines. Ensure all links to your pages are from relevant sites. Be wary of link builders who acquire links from gambling, pharmaceutical or adult themed sites, especially if your site is not of the same theme. Link building is as much a science as it is an art, one we take very seriously.

2. Untargeted Keywords.

The people who use search engines are 'normal' people who are not likely to use words used in advertising brochures. Get to know how your customers ask for your services/products and use these in your content. Often times, actual keyword research will surprise you.

3. Excessive Graphics and Flash Content.

This looks good on a web page, but to search engine crawlers it means little. Search engines are looking for content, keywords, and relevancy to the search terms. By all means have some graphics, but don't forget the meat. This doesn't mean Flash designed websites are bad necessarily. In fact, some big businesses do use it. For most webmasters though, Flash sites are best avoided. What pleases Yahoo might not necessarily please MSN or Google. Optimize your content, keywords, inbound links, and internal linking structure so that there is something for at least one of the three top search engines.

5. Multiple Search Engine Submissions.

In the very early days of search engines, this technique may have had some success, but now it can lead to slower indexing and rankings. A site with inbound links from other sites will get indexed naturally and search engine submission is not necessary. In fact, multiple submissions may be construed as an attempt to spam the search engines. 6. Incorrect Use of Title Tags.

Most people consider the title to be for their company name or product. Not so. You must include your most important search phrases within your title tag and if you do want your company name there, keep it for the end. 7. Use of 'Black Hat' techniques.

Techniques such as doorway pages, hidden text, and overstuffing keywords may have had success in the past but now they will earn you penalties and could even get you banned. Avoid them altogether if you are seeking long term success. Some black hat techniques can work on a short term basis, but in the long run prove very costly.

8. Expecting Immediate Results.

SEO is an ongoing process and should be treated as such by your SEO company. Good optimization will involve building good links with quality sites and this takes time.

9. Use of Unethical SEO Consultants.

Beware the consultant that guarantees rankings with no past clients to back it up with or claims of special relationships with search engines. Many such "consultants" or "experts" will probably take your money and run. Choose a reputable SEO consultant, one who will keep in regular contact with progress reports and updates.

10. Decide to do optimization in-house.

Probably possible in the past, but now with ever increasing sophistication of search engine algorithms, this is an area best left to an expert. Furthermore, the good SEO experts usually have other income streams from their online marketing activities and a regular paycheck to work full-time simply doesn't justify their time invested. We've yet to meet a good SEO who doesn't have virtual real estate bringing in a nice chunk of cash.

1. Unique Page Titles.

Take a look at a selection of web pages that come up high in the search engine results for any search term and you'll notice they all have one thing in common: unique page titles. Denoted by in HTML, page titles tell the search engines what your web page is about, and are thought to be a critical factor in how search engines determine the order in which pages are displayed in the search engine result pages (SERPS) for a specific search term.

2. Descriptive Keyword Links.

How do search engines find and index your site? They follow links from one page to another, indexing content as they go. If the links they follow contain keywords and phrases that are relevant to the page content, the search engines will boost the ranking of that page in their results. You should also use keywords and phrases in the site's navigation (menu), as those terms are (or should be) highly relevant for the page they link to.

The number of other sites that link to your site's pages is important but the quality of those sites, and the text used in the link, carries much more weight with the search engines. For example, one relevant link from an "authority" site such as a .org, .gov, or a site that's proven itself as a reliable source, provides more value than several links from unrelated or "unproven" sites.

They're all easy to implement, so there's really no excuse for not taking advantage of them especially if you want to make sure your site is found and visited by as many people as possible. Then all you'll need to worry about is getting those people to buy something from you on a frequent basis.

How Google Measures Link Popularity

Link popularity is by far the most important factor for determining your search engine ranking. You need to know what link popularity is, why it is so important, and how Google measures your link popularity (over 50% of all search engine traffic comes from Google, and if you can rise to the top of Google, you will rise to the top of all the other search engines as well). But, before we talk about how Google measures linking, we need to cover some basics.

Link popularity is defined as the number of sites that are linking to your site. Some websites have thousands or even millions of sites linking to them, while others might have only a few. The search engines use the number of inbound links your site has as a measure of how important your site is, which translates into your search engine ranking.

The actual number of links to your site is not the only variable used to calculate your link popularity. The search engines also examine the relevance of the links to the subject matter of your site. For example, if a website that sells vitamins has 4,000 inbound links, but the source of most of the links are websites that have nothing to do with vitamins, then the algorithm that search engines use to determine link popularity will take that into account, and the link popularity score will not be very good.

It is possible for a website with a relatively small number of quality inbound links to be ranked higher than a site with a bunch of irrelevant or insignificant links. If I have a website that offers quotes for auto insurance, and I have 800 quality inbound links, then I might receive a much higher search engine ranking than another mortgage site that has 3,000 links that stem from link farms or Free For All (FFA) pages.

If you try to acquire inbound by using link farms or FFA pages, not only will it hurt your search engine ranking, but you might get permanently removed from the search engine listings. Links farms are sites where you can instantly exchange links with all the sites listed in that directory. FFA pages are pointless link directories. The search engines usually discount any links that come from either of these sources.

Now that we understand what link popularity is and how it works, we need to look specifically at how Google measures it. Google uses a number of variables in their algorithm to calculate your overall link score. The higher your score, the higher you will be ranked in the search listings.

One factor that Google uses in their algorithm, obviously, is the total number of sites linking to you. The more links you have, the higher your score will be. However, their algorithm is a little more complicated than that, and it is possible for a website with fewer links to be ranked higher than a website that has more links.

The reason for this is because Google also measures the quality of your links. If your website is about vitamins, and the site linking to you is a video game site, then that is not considered a quality link. The link still helps your score, but the link would help your score much more if it were from a website whose subject matter is the same as yours.

Also, Google gives a higher score to a link if it comes from a page that has actual content that relates to your keywords. For example, if your site is about jewelry, and another jewelry website has posted a link to your site on their links page, that link is not as valuable as a link to your site coming from a blog or a message board where a lot of information about jewelry is being written or discussed.

Also, Google gives an even higher score to a link if it contains anchor text that matches one of the keywords that describes your site. For example, if I have a site that sells lawnmowers, and a blog about lawnmowers has posted a link to my site, it helps my score even more if the link text (also known as anchor text) is LAWNMOWERS. To learn more about anchor text, go to a search engine and look up ANCHOR TEXT and you will be able to learn about it.

Another factor used by Google to score your link popularity is the diversity of keywords contained on sites linking to you. For example, if you have a site that sells handbags, and all the links to your site are from other sites that contain nothing but the keyword HANDBAGS, Google considers that to be abnormal. To get a higher score, you need to have links coming from sites that contain a variety of keywords related to handbags, such as BUY HANDBAGS, LEATHER HANDBAGS, etc.

It is difficult to increase your link popularity, but now that you understand how your score is calculated, you can devise a plan to improve your score. You might want to consider posting to forums and blogs that contain information that is related to your site, and when you post, include a link to your site. As long as you are persistent and tailor your strategy towards Google, you will do fine.

Looks like Blogitive is also going through a major revamp. I don't know if they have erased all their database and staring anew or if they still haven't finish doing the revamp. I can't log in to my account.

I just hope after the overhaul by Blogitive, their portal will be more stable. As it is some of my blogs gets replaced by some other unknown blogs for no apparent reasons. I have complained many times, and the reply I got was it was a bug in their system that they have problems rectifying. The last time my blog got replaced, I gave up hope of re-submitting. let's hope this bug will be taken care of with the new site.

On the other hand, payPerPost seems to be getting stricter and stricter with blogs. Lots of apportunities were out of limits for blogs using Blogspot. This has really affected me as i have only on personal domain registered with PayPerPost.

Seems like bloggers who are blogging from free platforms like Blogspot and Wordpress have limited days if they are doing Paid Posts. For those who are already making some decent money from paid Postings should seriously consider getting their own domains if they want to continue in the long term.

Don't be fooled by Money Making Programs.

Lately I have noticed a certain blog that professes to be making lots of money in the Net and he has been bombarding the local Pinger, PPS, with pings in different post titles. This guy is really working damn hard to get people to his site, hoping that they will sign up and in the process makes him some handsome referral fees.

To make it even more convincing, he posted images of PayPal's payout table. Out of curiosity, I did click on some of the links he provided but from what I see, I don't think this guy is blogging the truth. All the links that he posted I have checked out before. Except for the Paid to Search program, most of the others require you to pay for their so-called money making programs. My opinion is, don't go around buying these 'money making' programs that promises you the sky. The only guy who is going to make money is the guy who is marketing these programs.

There are many other ways that you can earn some decent money from your blogs. Adsense is a proven money earner if you have enough loyal readers. Lots of bloggers easily earn 100USD monthly. Payperpost also lets you blog for money. So does Blogitive. So why should you go and pay for something that has no proven record except for some fancy testimonials that hey say are from people who have succeeded after paying for their programs?

My Favorite RockSatrtup Video

I must admit I have not been following the episodes in PayPerPost's RockStartup reality show My Internet connection sucks big time and it take ages for the videos to load. However, from the few episodes that i have watched, I vote Episode Six - The X-Factor to be my personal favorite, though it could been better if it had a better ending.

This Episode sees Xavier, the guy in charge of promotions for PayPerPost getting the service of 4 gorgeous ladies to help out in promoting PayPerpost at the FSU/UF Football game down in Tallahassee. Heads turned when the ladies, Sarah, Natalie and Renee walked into the office for a meeting with Xavier and another lady Eroni who is already waiting in the conference room.

Now it was all nice and proper at the next scene where Xavier packed their stuffs onto his Monster Truck that was fully adorned with PayPerPost images. It still nice and proper when they stepped into a disco, or was it a pub, and started handing out PayPerPost advertorials. I was expecting some hot actions from the Promo ladies when the video came to an abrupt end. Hey! No Fair!! I did not even get to see Sarah bogey! Is this suppose to be a teaser or what? A good break from blogging

It has been 3 days of no blogging for me as I took some time off to catch up with other things during these Chinese New Year Holidays. I must say it has been refreshing, not to sit in front of my PC everyday. Somehow I did not miss blogging like I used to. When before, i get very restless even after one day, this time around, I actually felt good. Maybe blogging has really become a commitment to me.

I don't think it's a good thing to be too committed to my blogs. Of course it's different if i am a problogger who depends on bloggng for a living. Then, commitment is a must. For a casual blogger like me, I think I should just enjoy it and maybe make a few spare bucks along the way.

Maybe one day when I find that blogging can really pay off all my bills, I might consider going at it full time like some of those more successful blogger have done. They have more than 10 blogs running side by side and if one blog can make them 100 bucks each month, their living expenses will be well taken care of.

I am slowly working towards this end. I have plans to slowly phase off this blog which is running on a free platform and getting all my blogs on my own domains. The future of paid postings will be from privately hosted domains and some changes can already be seen at PayPerPost. Blogitive is also on their way to have bloggers blogging on their own domains to have some special benefits. So for all those interested to do paid postings, it's time now to consider getting your own domains.

Today I saw my seeds of my labour really sprouting roots. I just cashed out another 300USD for my efforts in writing paid reviews. When I first joined the fray of writing paid post, I was just doing it as a small incentive, so that I can pay my hosting fees. Now, I felt very encouraged that blogging can really pay my bills.

After blogging for PayPerPost for about 2 months I am beginning to see results. The fist payback came after one month where I cashed out 600 USD through my Web Host, who has been so good to help me withdraw my PayPal money. So all in, I have made 900USD which is now safely in my pocket and I have another 400USD oending payments. Coupled with the 133USD Adsense check which I received earlier, I have just made a cool 1033 USD. That sure goes a long way into paying my month utilities bills.

My new domain which I have been ranting for the past few days is already up and running and I m in the middle of twitching the templates and putting in all the necessary plugins. Hopefully, it shall be ready for launching right after the Chinese New Year. That's another money making opportunity for me, but of course first I have to make sure the blog succeed.

Do casual bloggers like us takes a rest? Go on a forced hiatus where you refrain from updating your blog for a few days? I have never actually 'rested' on my blogs. Of course there are times when I get a bad case of blogger's block and when nothing come to mind, but I don't think I can consider that a break from blogging. I am still in front of my PC trying to think of something to write.

For this coming New Year holidays, I think I will try hard not to boot up my PC. That will be hard to do, because I have payments coming into my PayPal account which I have to accept within a certain time frame or else it gets sent back. Then there might be good offers at PayPerPost which might be too good to pass.

I should really disipline myself and limit my time spent in front of my PC. Maybe just check a couple of e-mails and then shut it down. Let's see how strong my will power is.

Writing Personal Feelings in your Blog.

Today is supposed to be Valentines day. Sorry, today IS Valentines Dy and the blogoshere is flooded with Valentine Day postings that I am getting quite bored. This Year I did not do any Valentines Day post as in last Year. maybe age has caught up and I don't feel romantic anymore.

Anyway, I see a lot of romantic bloggers out there. Some have expressed their love through their blogs for the world to see. I think their love ones will be very pleased to see their love declarations for them online. Problem is what will happen when the love died after a few years. Will the Blogger go back and delete that post? Or will they keep it as a reminder of good times gone by?

Sometimes I think it's not too good an idea to post something really private online. Private things are supposed to be kept that way. Private. Once you blogged about it, it becomes public. You may go and remove it the next day after you realised that it was a mistake, but during that few hours, the word might have spreaded like wild fire and it's already too late. The best alternative is to write it in your personal diary if you are the kind that finds writing down your inner feelings can release some pent-up tensions. I don't have this habit. I feel that inner feeling should be best keopt in my own heart and when I die, I bring it along with me.

Still waiting for my second Domain.

I am starting to regret that I did not use my own domain when I first started blogging. If I had started on a proper domain of my own, my blog would have at least a PR of 6 by now. I have been blogging actively for nearly 2 years and that 2 years effort has been spent on my personal domain, it would have been something today.

As it is, like all beginners, I was not too sure if I could keep blogging, so I did not fully commit myself. It was after a year or so, that I started to realise that I could actually make some money from my blog. At first, I thought my blog, being a personal one should be clear of advertisements, but with the encouragement from fellow bloggers, I inserted Adsense and when I saw that the money is enough to cover a year's hosting fees, i was really thrilled. So I started giving serious thought into getting a domain for myself. I finally did it on September last year and the little money that I made from Adsense is more than enough to upkeep 2 domains.

I am still waiting for my host to come back from his holidays to complete the set up for my second domain. He has promised to finish by today and I am getting all excited,like a little boy getting a new toy.

Use a FTP client to Upload your files.

I was all excited about my new domain, thinking that I will be able to start on it today. The bad news is, my host is away and won't be back to complete things till tomorrow. I head even downloaded a few nice themes that I thought of testing out for this new blog. looks like I will have to wait for another day or two.

After so many months of blogging in my own domain, I finally learned how to use a FTP client to upload files to my server. The FTP software has been sitting idly in my computer but I was just simply lazy to learn how to utilize it. I would rather take the painful but very easy way of uploading my files one by one, which was very tedious.

I spent a few minutes looking for tutorials on how to use the FTP software and found it absolutely easy and time saving. Gave myself a knock on the head for all the time wasted. Should have used it the first day I got my domain.

So for all those who are planning to start your own domain, go get a FTP client. Filezilla is highly recommended.

A Prosperous Chinese New Year thanks to PayPerPost

You know from where I got the money to buy a new domain and pay the hosting fees for the new blog? I don't need to keep my source a secret. It's from the money earned from PayPerPost for writing those cool sponsored post in 2 of my blogs

Before yesterday, I had only one approved blog in PayPerPost, but yesterday, I had another one approved. Well, I finally got it! My new domain, I mean. I just received an e-mail from my present host that the new domain will be online in 48 hours. I have been plotting out in my mind about the things that I am going to with this new domain and I have decided to make it into a Technical Blog of sorts. Not the advanced technology that you see in abundance but conventional Technology like how things work and sorts.

I have a rough idea, but generally it will be like a DIY blog where I will share my knowledge that I have garnered for over 20 years in the general construction field. I will be sharing my know how on how to use certain tools, as I see lots of people using inappropriate tools for certain jobs. I will also be introducing new tools for the job. Then maybe I will share with my readers on how to install certain household items and how to do simple repairs in and around the house.

There are thousand and one things that I can blog about on this topic, so keep an eye on my launching date which I will be announcing once I get the blog up and running. Now I am off to look for a nice and befitting theme for this new baby of mine!

Got myself a new Domain

I just e-mailed my host asking him to get a new domain and host it for me. I thought of learning to host it on my own but after much consideration I opted out. I don't have enough knowledge about web hosting, so it's best to leave it to the experts so I can concentrate on my blogging. Anyway, my present host has been good to me. so I think I will stick with him for a while yet.

The reason why I wanted another domain is because I am missing out on some apportunities in PayPerPost. Some advertisers does not like blogs blogging on a free platform like Blogger. They insist that the blogger must be blogging from their own domain. I never know the reason why, though.

I do have my own personal domain, but I did not submit it for paid post writing. I had wanted to keep that domain clean from paid post, but sometimes I sneak in one or two when I fail to make any money from the other blogs.

As for the new domain, I still haven't figured out what kind of post or topics that I will be using. I have been surfing around trying to find a suitable topic which i know something about so that I can make it into something useful. I have a few ideas in mind and shall experiment about before I decide. It's still early. A new Domain takes at least one week to go live.

I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me when I saw a $1000.00 apportunity at PayPerPost this morning. My Gawd! $1000.00!! PayPerPost has really overdone themselves and everybody else this time! I wish I can see the faces of those who criticized and bad-mouthed PPP when they launched. However, there is a catch. Only those who has a PR8 blog qualifies. So that leaves me out in the cold. It will take another 3 years minimum for this blog to achieve PR8., but never mind, I took one that is worth $75.00. Yes!

Never in my life did I imagine that there will be such an apportunity for me. The best priced one that I had the chance to take was $18.00 and I was already estactic that I was qualified to write it. Today is another euphoric day for me.
